ABSTRACT

Genetic targeting is humankind's gateway to a future in which people can successfully treat degenerative diseases in a highly effective manner that would have been unimaginable just a few decades ago. An additional complication can occur due to a ‘compensation effect’ that is triggered in the recipient's genome by the introduction of recombinant DNA. Recombinant technology is currently used to grow stem cells in a regulated environment. The stem cells respond by producing the growth factors necessary to trigger the anti-inflammatory and regenerative process. Inflammation plays an important role because a small amount helps to trigger the regenerative process. The recombinant creams and serums that people use in aesthetic treatments typically need to reach the dermis. A patch test in advance of skin treatments is advisable to mitigate risk of complications due to allergies or skin sensitivity. Hygiene is also an important factor, since people are delivering creams and serums into the dermis.
