ABSTRACT

Development of machine vision applications is a complex task that involves understanding the application requirements of specific applications; selection of appropriate machine vision components; selection of software and the optimal image processing methodology, and finally the design of the automation solution. Each application is unique, with its own requirements and desired outcomes. This chapter uses real-world case studies to explain the process of building practical applications. The case studies start begin with the requirement specifications and goes on to discuss in detail the process of selecting machine vision components to build the solutions. Case studies have been taken from the quality control domain and explain how to build solutions for quality inspections, such as, checking presence/absence, surface inspection, and dimensional measurement. The case studies help to reinforce the concepts and provide a practical exposure to the solution building process.
