ABSTRACT

External and Internal photographs were received from the client, the landlord of a flat experiencing damp problems. From client briefings, and looking at the building photographs, it would be necessary to take long ladders to inspect the flat roof. Counting brick courses in photographs made it easy to work out the height of elevations and assess suitable ladders to take to site. From brick bonding the building looked to be constructed of cavity walling, and with concrete floor and roof slabs. There was no visible evidence of any cavity wall insulation having been retrofitted – the usual evidence being holes made good externally. External brickwork showed weathered pointing to upper courses. The flat roof was next viewed off the ladder, and although some ponding was evident, the felting looked likely to be watertight.
