ABSTRACT

This book concerns the description of the dynamics of technology seen as a process starting from the generation of an innovative idea and its transformation into a new technology. This process is presented from a technological point of view, inspired by analogies existing between technological and biological evolution. In fact, it focuses principally on the dynamics of the formation of new technologies, rather than on the effects of new technologies on the socio-economic system. The activity of technology innovation is seen in terms of processes, that may be explained by a suitable model of technology, and in terms of organizational structures for such innovations as the R&D projects system, the start-up – venture capital system, and the nascent industrial platform system. Study of the dynamics of technology may contribute to better understanding of, and be useful in, technology innovation management, and in policies for promotion of innovation.
