ABSTRACT

In discussions of accident reconstruction, much emphasis is placed on investigation, measurement, and analysis. However, reconstructionists constantly encounter the need for more information than is obtainable from investigation and measurement alone. One needs an arsenal of data that can be tapped quickly when it comes time to apply physics principles, study test data, analyze statistical trends, etc. Chapter 6 presents and discusses some data sources that the reconstructionist will find useful and/or necessary. These include nomenclature and terminology, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standard dimensions, vehicle identification numbers, vehicle specifications and market data, vehicle inertial properties, production changeovers and model runs, sisters and clones, people sizes, and other information sources.
