ABSTRACT

The wireless evolution from 1G to 4G is discussed followed by the need for designing systems at millimetre wave frequencies. Antennas designed in the previous generations of wireless standards for mobile terminals are explained in detail. Typical requirements and design criteria for antennas to be integrated on to mobile phones compliant to previous wireless standards is next discussed in detail. The primary difference between layout design of 4G cellular system and proposed mmWave 5G is explained with justification. The feasibility of mmWave carrier frequency is also elaborated, followed by an exhaustive overview of antennas designed in the past for 5G mobile terminals and base stations. This chapter also gives an outline of the book.
