ABSTRACT

Typical requirements of antenna designs targeting mobile terminal applications are discussed in detail in this chapter. The need for a corner bent antenna operating in the 28 GHz band is explained first, with justification. A CPW-fed wideband planar antenna is presented with detailed characterization. The corner bent antenna is also proposed, along with a discussion on the influence of bending on the impedance and radiation patterns of the antenna. A corner bent antenna integrated with an FSS reflector is also proposed for improvement in front-to-back ratio, consequently leading to gain enhancement with high pattern integrity. An alternative design with a shaped reflector with 3D-printed scaffolding is also presented, leading to a much higher bandwidth and pattern integrity. Generic design guidelines for corner bent antennas operating in the Ka band is also presented in this chapter.
