ABSTRACT

The characterization of antennas at 28 GHz is a challenging process. In this chapter, detailed analysis of issues in the fabrication and measurement of antennas is presented. The fabrication procedure for PCB-based antennas is discussed, along with the necessary precautions. A case study of the impact of variation of the dimensions of the fabricated antenna on the impedance characteristics of the antenna is presented. The consequences of deviation of the parameters of the dielectric substrate on the measured performance of the antenna is also discussed. The radiation pattern measurement setup is discussed in detail, with key parameters to be considered. A practical approach to gain measurements is also explained in detail. The chapter serves as a ready reckoner for researchers to perform measurements on Ka band antennas.
