ABSTRACT
In Chapter 9, the ProcIndustries digital transformation team finds a way to securely transmit their near-real-time data outside of their company firewalls using cloud-based technology. New technology has emerged to share increasing amounts of data among disparate organizations. And remote monitoring significantly improves operational effectiveness, resulting in lower production costs. This chapter discusses how manufacturers transition from on-premises software usage for process improvements to near-real-time sharing of their operations data with third-party providers, such as equipment suppliers, process analysis companies, and information technology system integrators to more quickly improve their facilities. This chapter also presents an industry use case describing how a large metals and mining company and their service provider used OSIsoft’s PI Cloud Connect services platform to work more effectively.
