ABSTRACT

A printed circuit board (PCB) is at the heart of any electronic system. The PCB provides a stable base for connecting various components such as processor, memory, transciever, antenna, etc., with each other, and provides connectors for interfacing the circuit with external peripherals like display, keyboard, mouse, and so on. The creation of a flexible electronic systems entails the fabrication of a similar board that can form the backbone of the entire system. However, like everything else on the flexible system, the PCB should also be flexible. In this chapter, we discuss the integration strategies surrounding the emerging field of flexible PCB (fPCB)s. The materials, processes and novel techniques, such as rigid-flex integration are discussed.
