ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book covers phytochemical investigations of Ocimum spp. plants. It depicts method developments, and validation of simple, rapid, sensitive and accurate analytical methods for comparative screening and determination of phenolics and triterpenic acids in leaf extracts of six Ocimum species using HPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS and UHPLC-QqQLIT-MS/MS. The developed UHPLC-QqQLIT-MS/MS method was effectively applied in leaf extracts of six Ocimum species to examine the variations in the content of 15 bioactive constituents. Quantitative outcomes demonstrated that ursolic acid and rosmarinic acid were the significant constituents of almost all the studied Ocimum species except for O. americanum. A UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS method was developed to study phytochemicals to standardize the traditionally important herbal medicines prepared using O. sanctum.
