ABSTRACT

Some designers will need to create Short Sims for formal assessment. And all Short Sims can be tracked to provide better insight into learning and engagement than traditional media. Short Sims is ideal for formal assessments. They can be used for everything from evaluating competence with processes, to completing multi-stage equations, to testing mindsets and biases. An assessment program keeps track of the right or wrong decisions, and stores them in centralized repositories often through a cloud database or a learning management system. Authoring environments typically have the ability to capture and transmit scores based on the player’s actions. Assessment Short Sims should, most of the time, offer significantly less feedback with regards to how right or how wrong a decision was and fewer retries to a player than developmental Short Sims. Goal in the construction of Short Sims is to use as few distinct stories as possible.
