ABSTRACT

A useful repository for feedback during the most of the Short Sim development process is a Microsoft Word document. In one version, reviewers go through the sim, and when they find problems, copy a screenshot, paste it into the document, and then write their correction. The best facilitators of the playtesting sessions say nothing, but just watch where the test users are confused. Obviously, the sim designers should not be anywhere near the sessions, but just shown the conclusions later. The more powerful the Short Sim will eventually become—the more it will challenge assumptions and represent new perspectives and best practices—the more mistakes will be made in the design process. Throughout the creation process, a Short Sim designer takes sharps swerves, from the introversion of fact finding, to the extroversion of interviewing experts, back to the introversion of design, and then back to the extroversion of getting feedback.
