ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the necessity of cloud computing in the context of IIoT, various models of cloud, service-level agreement (SLA), and fog computing and its applications in IIoT. The main focus of the GE platform is to collect and analyze data generated from industrial machines and their environment, to improve the efficiency of the machines. In the IIoT and Industry 4.0 environment, most of the applications run in real-time, for which SLAs ensure the safety and security of individuals and devices. Cloud computing relies on the provisioning of on-demand cloud services such as networking, storage, software, database, processing, computation, and analytics, to the customers. In the IIoT and Industry 4.0 environment, data is sensed and transmitted continuously by the smart sensor nodes, which are deployed at various industrial locations. The chapter provides basic knowledge of the key aspects of cloud computing and fog computing in the industries.
