ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the effect of surface roughness on wettability and bacterial adhesion of the machined work surfaces. The objective of this experiment is to finish the biomaterials and to study the effect of the unidirectional abrasive flow finishing process on the surface roughness, surface morphology, bearing area curve and wettability of the biomaterial work surfaces. Effect of a number of cycles and pressure on surface roughness and surface morphology of the biomaterials are studied, and further, these work surfaces are subjected to wettability study. The machinability experiments are carried out on four different materials having different hardness numbers to understand the effect of a number of cycles on finishing of different materials. After finishing, these surfaces are subjected to bacterial adhesion study to understand the effect of surface roughness on bacterial adhesion.
