ABSTRACT

One of the main tasks that is undertaken during spatial data analysis is to create effective visual representations. Visualization produces fundamental clues and insights about the data through systematic exploration and presentation, by using tools and algorithms, graphical displays, and intuitive features. Data visualization methods are integral to what we might call “value-added” statistics in the sense that they enable us to go from large amounts of diverse forms of data to analyze, synthesize, and graphically display meaningful information with the expectations of possibly constructing and conveying new knowledge for use in decision-making. At present, authors of infographics use it to deliver valuable information; to improve learners’ ability to discern data and knowledge about society, behavioral sciences, and any other disciplines; to study patterns and trends; or to effectively present their narratives. This chapter introduces the concepts, tools, and practice of data visualization.
