ABSTRACT

In this chapter we introduce and study the evolutionary models of cancer. We show an ecological approach in which the cancer cells are treated as an evolving population within the human environment. We also study spatial models of cancer evolution. We then consider games involving a clinician as an active rational player who can affect the evolution of the cancer, for example exploit the concept of an evolutionary double bind using combination therapy and the use of adaptive therapies which attempt to prevent the evolution of treatment resistant cancer strains, often aiming to control rather than eradicate cancers.
