ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 deals with nanobiotechnology. Nanobiotechnology is the convergence of nanotechnology and biology and is the branch of nanotechnology with biological and biochemical applications. It often studies existing nanomaterials to fabricate new devices for medical and diagnostic applications. The integration of biological science with engineering is one of the most challenging and fastest growing sectors of nanobiotechnology. Nanotechnology is the creation and utilization of materials, devices, and systems through the control of matter on the nanometer-length scale (a nanometer is one billionth of a meter). In this chapter, we define nanotechnology and explain the significance of nanobiotechnology. We also discuss various applications of nanobiotechnology, including nanomedicine and discuss nanoparticles and nanomaterials. In addition, we explain the application of nanobiotechnology in food testing and water pollution and discuss current research trends in nanobiotechnology.
