ABSTRACT

Biotechnology is a highly interdisciplinary field where integration of various fields and science merged to bring new technology and products which are beneficial to all of us. This chapter discusses trends in biotechnology. It describes major trends in biotechnology such as forensic Science, Regenerative Medicine, Biosimilars, Synthetic Biology and Bioinformatics. The chapter discusses some major emerging topics in biotechnology that have enormously affected our lives. These emerging fields are directly or indirectly associated with biotechnology. It also describes important trends in the biotechnology field. Genetic fingerprinting can also be used to screen parents and fetuses for the presence of inherited abnormalities, such as Huntington’s disease or muscular dystrophy. The process begins with a sample of an individual’s DNA. Regenerative medicine is the science of making artificial organs, tissues, and cells under controlled conditions. It has been suggested that regenerative medicine helps the natural process of healing by using special materials that can be regrown on the missing or damaged tissues.
