ABSTRACT
This chapter first presents the basic configurations as well as the operating principles of closed-loop vertical thermo-syphon ground-source heat pump systems, and the characteristics of the most used working fluids. Second, are identified the density, pressure, temperature, and velocity profiles, the heat transfer mechanisms as well as the thermal resistance. Finally, some advantages and drawbacks of these systems, and future R&D needs are summarized.
