ABSTRACT
This chapter first classifies the open-loop groundwater systems, and then presents a number of the most relevant properties of aquifers and the potential problems that may impact the safe operation of geothermal heat pumps. Some advantages and limitations of open-loop groundwater heat pump systems are finally summarized.
