ABSTRACT
This chapter first summarily presents some information related to outdoor and indoor design temperatures as well as principles of heating and cooling loads for both residential and commercial/institutional buildings in cold and moderate climates. Second, the most commonly used software tools in industry and academia for whole building simulation including or not including means to simulate the major ground-source heat pump systems and their sub-systems are summarized.
