ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the nomination file of Historic Jeddah, “Gate to Makkah” in Saudi Arabia as an example of United Nations’ Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage nominations file. The UNESCO is the “United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation”, which was founded around 70 years ago by the United Nations and the London Conference in 1945, which reported: “Since wars begin in the minds of men; it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed”. To achieve inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List, according to the World Heritage Resource Manual, the site needs to represent “an Outstanding Universal Value that should include one of the ten selection criteria” that are “four natural and six cultural criteria”. Building Information Modelling can offer a lot of benefits in terms of improving and supporting building projects undertaken by various individuals including owners, architects, designers, and construction engineers.
