      ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the case study and the issues that relate to the historic district in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Jeddah Heritage Building Information Modelling model will be based on on-site survey data, which includes the laser scanning survey and image survey, as well as the Architectural Hijazi pattern books and any existing useful data. The common pattern of construction in Historic Jeddah and other such sites in East Africa, according to Orbasli, “was to use coral rag or irregular shaped stones that were then covered with a lime render”. In Jeddah and as with many historical buildings in Europe and around the world, building façades are of special interest. Modelling the objects was based on using the Geometric Description Language (GDL), which is a language for creating parametric objects in the ArchiCAD Building Information Modelling program. The scripting in GDL allows for sharing and editing of the parametric objects at different levels.
