ABSTRACT

This chapter covers some critical elements that must be considered in the implementation of environmental regulations. The concept of environmental justice came to the forefront and took form in the 1980s, resulting from the pollutants that companies across the country released into the environment. As a result, today businesses are required to evaluate the areas that they are considering to conduct business that may emit pollutants to the environment prior to proceeding with construction and operation. To ensure environment-compliant operations, companies must ensure that workers have the knowledge needed to conduct work in accordance with environmental regulations. The methods that can be used to train workers are explored in this chapter, which include mentoring, coaching, applied learning, microlearning, and team-based learning. Training is key to implementing a comprehensive effective environmental management system within an organization. A comprehensive training program not only has provisions for initial knowledge gaining but it also takes into consideration the necessary repeat or refresh frequency of training material and knowledge. Any or all of the training methods discussed in this chapter can be used to enhance workers’ knowledge of environmental laws and practices within their organization.
