ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we address the role of continuing and professional education in analytics and data science. Specifically, we will examine the importance of developing in-house analytical talent versus hiring new graduates, the trends of badging and credentialing, the reasons why an analytical organization would partner with a university for continuing education, and discuss how continuing and professional education complements a larger collaborative relationship with a university, with specific examples from the University of Dallas and the collaboration between Uber and Arizona State University. We discuss the evolving role of the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) credential as an emerging standardized credential. In our “View from the Ground”, we include a discussion with the Dean of a College of Continuing and Professional Education and conclude with our checklist for you to consider when partnering with a university for continuing education.?
