ABSTRACT
Electrical generators for wind turbines are covered in this chapter. A historical development in the wind turbine powertrain systems is presented with discussions from early direct-online turbines to existing turbines with back-to-back voltage source converters. Different generator topologies, including synchronous, induction, doubly fed, and multiphase dual rotor generators are discussed. The direct-drive concept as compared with geared wind turbines is also presented.
