ABSTRACT

In recent times, medicinal plants have received much needed attention as sources of bioactive substances used to treat wide variety of diseases and disorders of major body organs including liver as a hepatoprotective and antioxidants. Ethnobotany is a study of how people of particular cultures and regions make use of the plants in their local environments. Liver is the heaviest gland of the body and plays the major role in metabolic activities and bio-chemical conversions. Hepatic disease is a basic collective term of conditions, diseases, and infections that affect the cells, tissues structures, or functions of the liver. The present review is an attempt to review the usage of ethnomedicinal plants for hepatoprotection in India, utilizing among the different tribal culture in India by using scientific studies. This may be useful to researchers who are working in the area hepatopharmacology and therapeutics.
