When Should I Look to My Employer to Facilitate My Career Development?

A key aspect of when and where in every scientist’s life is their career development. I describe the role of the employer. In turn the employer is guided by government policy. I describe in detail the UK’s approach, named the Concordat with researchers. This has been reviewed recently by a strategy group, so I scrutinise some key recommendations and the response of the Concordat implementation team as well as a researchers’ response.
