ABSTRACT

Scheduling involves the timing of operations to ensure efficient movement of units through the system. Scheduling techniques vary according to the type of production process. This chapter focuses on scheduling problems for job shop production. There are several aspects and approaches to scheduling and sequencing jobs. These ranged from Gantt charts to a number of priority rules, the critical-ratio rule, and Johnson’s sequencing rule. Various formulations for the problems are presented, along with their solutions. All learning outcomes, solved examples, questions, and practice problems are mapped with Bloom’s Taxonomy level (BT level) 1 to 6.
