ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an overview of various models of a highway project and its implementation. The essential requirement is the feasibility studies report (FSR), which creates the economic analysis and determines the internal rate of return, which in turn determines the viability of the project. If it is found viable then the project authority has to decide on the project implementation model. The various models include the build operate and transfer (BOT) with either a toll or annuity model, concessions, BOT and design build operate (DBO) projects, overview of concessions, contractual structure, the hybrid annuity model (HAM) and its importance, and finally the preparation of a detail project report (DPR) to proceed with the implementation. The detailed engineering design of the highway, along with various bridges, tunnels, and structures, determines the cost of the project and is required to make the bid documents.
