ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the essence of electromagnetic field theory and includes a brief history of the developments in the area of electrical sciences. It progresses through the era of the conceptual stage of electrical phenomena, the era of formulation of the basic laws of electromagnetics, and the sequence of inventions of electrical and electronic devices. It indicates some of the spheres of electromagnetics vis-à-vis the tiny charged particles, their behavior, and the role of Maxwell’s equations. This chapter also discusses the teaching of electromagnetics, the importance and acceptability of the subject, and the present world scenario vis-à-vis the teaching methods and students’ response. Lastly, some salient features of the present text are noted.
