ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with various aspects of transmission lines. These include modeling of transmission lines using circuit approach and field approach. The field approach includes EMF and MMF equations and defines the circuit parameters. The voltage and current relations are obtained in the exponential and hyperbolic forms and some characterizing parameters are defined. The chapter describes the behavior of lossless lines at higher frequencies for different terminations. It explores the utility of lossless and lossy line sections as circuit elements at UHF and above. It explains working of single and double stub matching. This chapter also discusses some other some transmission line structures, including coaxial lines and different types of planar lines. Lastly this chapter briefly describes the formation of Smith charts and their applications.
