ABSTRACT

The chapter starts with the functions of the vehicle body, the protective, outer hull that encloses the systems and subsystems of the vehicle and occupants space with maximum safety, comfort and convenience. The chapter covers the requirements and classification of the vehicle body. Car body construction, bus body construction material used and mountings based on requirements and application are also explored in details. The chapter also presents the different types of loads acting on the vehicle body and their analysis, anthropometric and ergonomics considerations and recent developments and upcoming trends in vehicle body manufacturing, including assembly.
