ABSTRACT

Vehicle aerodynamics is associated with the interaction between air flow, road and moving vehicle, which effects fuel consumption, stability of the vehicle and road holding. This chapter focuses on the fundamentals of air flow around the moving vehicle and various forces and moments generated during the motion of the vehicle. The aerodynamic stability of the vehicle is discussed in sufficient detail in this chapter. Other topics covered are car body drag reduction techniques, cars with advanced aerodynamic features, commercial vehicle drag reduction techniques, wind tunnel and testing and the important aspects of aerodynamics in two wheelers, as they have a major share in the vehicles market.
