ABSTRACT
Maintenance is a combination of all technical, administrative and managerial activities performed during the life cycle of a vehicle aimed at keeping or returning it to the intended operating condition to be able to perform its functions. This chapter addresses the necessity of maintenance to achieve maximum vehicle effectiveness, risk management and physical integrity aspects. It also focuses on the specific methodologies adopted by particular vehicular maintenance practices, as vehicle technology continuously changes day by day. Other topics covered in this chapter are types of maintenance and various activities performed. This chapter also focuses on maintenance documentations, advanced tools and techniques and recent trends in vehicular maintenance practices with sufficient details.
