ABSTRACT

Internal combustion (IC) engines have a long history in the development of motor vehicles, with continuous development in engine technology. The overall performance of a vehicle is closely associated with engine performance. The study of the engine involves material science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and much more. The engine’s fundamental aspects and advanced technologies such as the working principle, various systems and subsystems associated with fuel injection, lubrication, cooling, air inlet exhaust systems, emission reduction technologies and combustion process are briefed in this chapter.
