ABSTRACT

Fetal echocardiography is the diagnostic examination to be performed in any case in which there is either a suspicion of congenital heart disease (CHD) raised at screening obstetric US, any time in pregnancy, and/or a high risk of CHD based on family history (e.g. previous sibling with CHD), maternal diseases (e.g. insulin-dependent diabetes) or fetal conditions (e.g. Nuchal Translucency [NT] thickness ≥ 99° centile, presence of extra-cardiac anomalies). Most national and international societies have set a defined list of indications to fetal echocardiography. The reader is referred to these publications since they may be slightly different according to the country [1–4].
