These include medical nutrition therapy and/or weight loss if necessary. Recommendations for different types of diabetes and precautions related to physical activity may vary considerably depending on its type. There are two primary types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. The types of physical activity and exercise that have been studied in diabetes include aerobic activities that include continuous movement of large muscle groups such as in walking, cycling, jogging. In individuals with diabetes, as with any physical activity program, it is important take precautions to minimize any potential adverse events. In these individuals, the effect of physical activity on insulin and glucose handling is particularly important.
