ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with semiconductor physics and describes the different semiconductor types and their properties. Next, the diode is introduced and diode-based applications are demonstrated. Further, this chapter introduces bipolar junction transistor (BJT) and different field-effect transistors (FETs). Specifically, junction field-effect transistor (JFET) and metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) are explained in detail. Finally, this chapter discusses the issues with the CMOS technology scaling and introduces emerging non-silicon devices.
