ABSTRACT

The technical developments in digital forensics occur at a rapid rate. Training situations can provide an opportunity for the investigators to network and commiserate on things they have run into. The environment is changed forever including friendships and the way the people are treated. Private sector digital forensic investigators should make contact with law enforcement and develop relationships because sooner or later the two paths will cross. Law enforcement may rely on digital evidence for assistance with an unsolved crime. Frustration is something that can manifest itself in many ways. There can be cases where the investigation clearly reveals laws being broken but the legal system declines to take the case. Most law enforcement agencies are often extremely underfunded which leads to extreme workloads and understaffed labs to handle that workload. Good ethical practices and good investigative practices are complimentary, even when looking at things from an analytical perspective.
