ABSTRACT
This chapter on harmonics in power systems covers the basic concept of what harmonics is all about. How is a harmonic generated and what are its effects on the power system of an electrically propelled vessel? The concepts of current and voltage harmonics are explained for the benefit of the reader, in simple words.
The chapter continues to explain the base frequency in context to harmonic with second, third and further levels of harmonic and their effects on power system are explained. Triples can be a source of big disturbance in a power system and it is explained in this chapter. Towards the end of the chapter, harmonic correcting methods are explained.
