ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on empirical evidence of test validity concerning the internal structure of the test. We first discuss the tetrachoric and the polychoric correlation coefficient as alternatives to Pearson correlation coefficients in the case of binary or ordinal data. We then discuss how the correlation structure may be analyzed with cluster analysis. Finally, we take a latent variable modelling approach and we discuss exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis.
