ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to various Item Response Theory (IRT) models for binary data. We start with general concepts, assumptions and different IRT models. We discuss various methods for estimation of item parameters and of respondent ability. We then present several R packages which may be used to fit binary IRT models. Throughout the chapter, the IRT models are conceptualized in the generalized linear mixed effect model framework which directly follows from models presented in Chapter 6. Relationship with the factor analytic approach presented in Chapter 3 is also explained in this chapter.
