ABSTRACT

The depletion of fossil fuels, environmental concerns, and the high rise in fossil fuel prices are leading scientists to seek alternative fuels. Biodiesel is a clean, green, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, but also less carbon-intensive fuel than conventional diesel. This is also a planned fuel source, particularly for nations which have no oil reserves. For these reasons, since biodiesel prices are even higher than petrol, several countries are promoting the commercialization of biodiesel. The cost of feedstock itself contributes to the biodiesel production cost; it can be reduced by employing advanced production. This chapter aims to complete a review of the homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst in biodiesel production. Similarly, various advanced assisted biodiesel production techniques are thoroughly assessed.
