ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the anisotropic crystals offering an additional degree of freedom to achieve the efficiency interaction of a nonlinear effect. This particular property is used to construct polarization devices such as a quarter wave plate and half wave plate. Since the intensity of electromagnetic fields in a nonlinear medium in comparison to a dielectric medium becomes weak due to a large diffraction of the output waves, the nonlinear optical properties of solids require a certain condition of effectively less diffractive interaction using fiber optics and nonlinear media, for instance. The incident power of the electromagnetic fields with the incident area of A is, hence, calculated as P=IA.
