ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the general principle of selection of personal protective equipment. The most important phenomena and risk factors that need to be identified in order to properly select protective helmets are characterized. The principles according to which the decision to use a helmet type (industrial, light or high-performance) is made, are presented. The specific constructional and protective properties of helmets are characterized, which determine their proper use at the workplace. In addition, the rules for the selection of eye and face protectors are described, which are then illustrated by two examples of the selection of eye protection: for welders and drivers. In relation to the examples described, a list of workplace hazards, characteristics and types of eye protection used in these conditions are presented.
