ABSTRACT

General considerations for infectious disease diagnostics, management, and prevention for fish are similar to those for other species but with differences tied to their aquatic biology and environment. This chapter first summarizes considerations with regard to drug or chemical use in treatments and the current limited, but future potential use of vaccines. The bulk of this chapter summarizes important parasitic, bacterial, viral, and fungal diseases and relevant management options. Finally, fish diseases reportable to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) are discussed.
