ABSTRACT

Spiders are representative of a group of arthropods that have adapted to conditions on the outside and the inside of structures in the human environment. From small children to adults in nearly all cultures, there is a common dislike and perhaps fear of spiders. The pest status of spiders is based primarily on the fear of being bitten by the unpredictable animals. The amount of prey killed by spiders in natural ecosystems may be more than 100 times higher than the prey killed in agricultural ecosystems. The spiders in and around the household environment may be divided into three groups: common, infrequent and occasional. The pest status of spiders seems to be based primarily on the presence of the animal in the living space and the threat of being bitten. Boxelder bugs often enter houses through open doors and windows and can crawl through cracks and crevices around window sills and door frames.
