ABSTRACT

The method of solution discussed in Chapter VI is valid only for bodies of small thickness ratio. If the thickness of the body is not small, approximations of an order higher than the first are required to obtain accurate results. The resulting computation proves to be extremely laborious. Consequently, fora body of larger thickness ratio, othen methods of solution for the compressible fluid flow problem are to be preferred. One method, particularly suitable for low subsonic flow, is the Rayleigh-Janzen method, 1 , 2 in which the velocity potential is developed in a power series of the Mach number. This method will be discussed in § 2 to § 5.
